“The woman asked if I could take off my scarf,” Magid said Thursday. “And I said, ‘No, I’m not going to take off my scarf.’ Then, she said she couldn’t serve me because I’m wearing a scarf.” The reason the bank teller gave Magid for not serving her was that the bank had “no hat” policy which included Magid’s scarf.

I have seen a hat and I have seen a scarf (Hijab), any sane person can differentiate between these two articles of clothing. I have worked as a teller in a national bank and never saw such a policy being enforced. You are not allowed to have anything that covers your face while doing a transaction but a Hijab is not something that covers the entire face.
After Magid approached CAIR, the President of the bank sent an apology letter to Magid which means nothing to someone who was discriminated based on her religious views. Needless to say, Magid doesn’t bank at the Community Bank of the Bay anymore.
