Pakistan One Year After Benazir Bhutto

Pakistan’s first female Prime Minister was assassinated exactly one year ago today. It was a great setback for Pakistani politics but nonetheless a great opportunity for PPP to take over the government of Pakistan.

Not to sound disrespectful but PPP has used the Bhutto assassination to its own advantage and we all see the ramifications of it today. Bhutto’s husband is now the Prime Minister President, Bhutto’s party has majority in the government and things are even worse than they were when Musharraf was in power, judges still remain ousted from their rightful posts, and last but not least, no one has been brought to justice over Bhutto’s killing.

Did she die in vain? Probably… if her husband doesn’t care, why should anyone else? All corruption charges against her husband were dropped after an agreement with Musharraf, who quit in August to avoid impeachment by the PPP-led government.

A PPP-Muslim League coalition government was created with a lot of hype but as soon as the common enemy of Muslim League and PPP quit as a President, Muslim League withdrew from the alliance over a dispute on the reinstatement of senior judges and the choice of a presidential candidate.

Pakistan’s fate remains really grim, unless something drastic happens that changes thing around, it seems like one will have to be very patient to seen any kind of change in Pakistan anytime soon…

Well the greatest benificiary of BB’s assasination was PPP themselves….they captured the emotional orientation of ppl for their own vote bank and are now in power with the least improvement to the internal conditions of the nation and not a single promise fullfilled…

A lil correction, her husband is the president…

    Thanks
    Iqbal
