Thanks for your input SFSU Alumni (don't know ur name). I don't think I will ever attend any other SFSU career fair because I am not interested in recruiters who basically take my resume and put it in the trash and try to market their companies to me by their sales pitch.

Most of the recruiters were really young and you know when you talk to them that they are only their for PR and not to recruit people as most of them were being paid minimum wage to represent the companies.

From my experience as a recruiter, SFSU was the most difficult school to work with. The registration process was hard, they required employers to fax in the registration form. Everything is done online today, and not to mention they lost my registration form. People that worked at the career center never picked up their calls when I had questions. It made the recruiting process of SFSU students very difficult...

The gym was definitely a bad place to hold the career fair. It was old and dusty. If you are looking for a career fair to attend, definitely check out SJSU career fair. They are more organized and large corporations attend there to recruit students for internships/full-time jobs. They actually take your resumes, most of the jobs cater to IT or Computer Science students.

You will have to pay $25 for a full year of SJSU career fair service (being part of CSU students),but I think it will be worth it.

Zahid, from your comment it appears that many business groups really just used this fair as an excuse to meet up and coming, bright university students who are deemed to be the second or third largest consumer group with disposable income.

It's a shame, however, that some of them did not make more of an effort to at least PRETEND to take in resumes and get those resumes to the appropriate departments within their companies.

I would suggest as students that you all put a list of the most blatant offenders up in a facebook wall of shame group.

Then ask those in the group to have decision makers at the fair next year or their wall of shame shall become even more prominent, lol.

In what seems to be an all digital world now, I'm not surprised you were told to 'go online'. However this kind of fair does show which companies really are the cut above - anyone who can take care of you when you just want to apply, will take care of you as an employee.

The downside to fair is it does tend to be all PR and Marketing - none of the people there have hiring power, and very few are on top of what jobs are on offer. (It's often out-sources on a per-job basis!).

I just go for the free pens...

Thanks for the info Gilbert. I am not currently enrolled at sfsu as I am taking a semester off to get few things in order. I will be attending SFSU in fall and then will definitly join ASO. I was a member of ASO last fall and I think it is a very well managed student run organization.
