Pakistan’s PTA Bans YouTube – Poll Rigging Videos

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a memorandum to the country’s ISPs to block access to the video sharing website YouTube for allegedly featuring a blasphemous video.

According to the Pakistani “Don’t Block The Blog” there are two theories that could explain PTA’s recent move to ban YouTube: vote rigging videos showing alleged evidence of election fraud in Karachi and a blasphemous video disgracing Prophet Mohammed.

I don’t honestly think Musharraf or anyone else for that matter cares about the blasphemous video disgracing Prophet Muhammad because every now and then there is a new video full of crap being virally marketed somewhere on the internet. I think the YouTube ban in Pakistan has more to do with the poll rigging videos like this one:

There is no way anyone could authenticate something like this and I honestly don’t think this ban would keep the world media away from something as controversial as poll rigging. I mean, this video is a smoking gun case against the Pakistani government but I still don’t see the point of the ban.

The ban is laughable, and speaks volumes for the kind of thinking prevalent among the chiefs of our government institutions.
