Hey, I just bought a used 2007 Altima 2.5s. Was the letter you received a recall letter and if so do you have the recall number because I bought the car and 3 weeks later had to put a heat shield on it which isn't covered in my warranty....kinda sucks and I'm hoping I can get my money back if there is a recall number. I like the car but that was a disappointment.

It's a heat shield. Seriously. I own a 2008 with 102,000 miles, and the ONLY problem I've ever had was that noise during startup and cold takeoffs. I was about to take it tot he dealer, but then i decided to see if I could tackle it myself. There is was. loose bolts on the exhaust heat shield. Nothing to be alarmed about, but it was annoying.

I had the rattling sound on 2006 2.5 Altima SL since new. Replaced it with 2009. The same thing again. What drives me crazy is that Nissan dealer "never heard of this". Hey, just Google and you will find 100s of complaints. So, don't tell me that you did not hear about this problem!

I have the exact same problem with a used 2007 Altima I bought from the dealership two weeks ago! I love Nissans, but I am kinda dissappointed about this transaction. I keep hearing what sounds like a diesel engine! I just took it back to the dealership this morning...the acted like I was crazy and they didn't hear the sound. Other than this problem I enjoy the car.

I have a new 2010 nissan altima too...and most of the time at low speeds (up to 35 or 40 mph),it sounds like a diesel....but a rattle also at 1500 rpm's. Never again will I test drive on a really hot day when the a/c is on HIGH,but it has gotten worse in the last month, and now I had my 1st oil change last week and it seems every more worse. They have "fixed" the problem twice but adding a exhaust clamp - NOT,and then told me I will experience the problem 10% of the time... well, I drive 30 miles of back roads traffic and an avg speed of 25 and I heard it about 75% of the time. Ready to schedule an appt. with the service manager to get in the car with me with I drive it... if you get in and push on the gas and get it passed 1500 rpms quickly, the sound is not that bad until you drop back down, but then again, I still think it just plans sounds like a diesel. And to make it worse, I've driven 4 other altima's since I got mine...and guess what, no problems,no loud engine noise. I have also on 4 occasions had the "jump" when pulling on the gas - it pops so hard ahead, that my head hits the headrest. If I could of returned the car after 3 days I would of... I hoping Nissan will make it good soon and glad I have the 100K , zero co-payment warranty.

I just bought a used '08 altima 2.5s with 23,000 miles. After driving the car for 1 week, I started hearing rattling sounds coming from the interior front right side. This would happen every time I would go over any slight bump, usually under 40mph. I read online that the rattle is coming from the passenger door panel near the speaker. I drove the car with my friend and he discovered by opening the glove compartment, that the plastic map holder tabs were loose. He tapped them back in place and problem solved! I got the car certified and I am pretty impressed with how smooth the car drives and handles.

I just bought a new 2010 nissan altima, and I noticed the rattling noise from the first time I started driving it. I took it to the dealer and they told me it is normal. I can't remember exactly what he said, but it has something to do with antilock breaks. Since I don't trust him, I went online and did a search and this page came up. Reading all these comments, I am guessing something is wrong with the car.
