What would you do if you got married to someone you and then one fine day found out that you are both siblings, meaning, brother and sister? I would flip!
This is not a joke, it happened in real life to a British couple. Apparently, they were twins, separated at birth and adopted by different families. In this small world, they met one day and maybe got too excited to find out how common they were and got married. Mistake! British court has annulled their marriage.
This has prompted the British government to consider laws that make adoption related documents more revealing and transparent. There is huge privacy concern when it comes to adoption but I guess, you gain some, you lose some.

Jesus! … They just keep sinking to new depths, don’t they?
One of the many reasons why Islam believes in never hiding the true identity of child. No adopted child should have changed sir name if his sir name’s known… !!
Tragic twist of fate!
I don’t know where you are Asma but in U.S women are empowered by laws such as, if you have a baby and you don’t want it, you can easily drop it at any Police Station, Fire Department, Hospital etc and you will not be asked any questions. If that were to happen, I don’t think the surname concept will float.
As we don’t have enough details on this specific british case, its hard to say if the surname could have saved these two twins from this debacle.
Maybe a required blood test to make sure the genes are not the same. I don’t know enough about the test to say it would work, but if they can tell the father of a child, they should be bale to tell close relatives. What of the couple in love? I wonder how they are handling this, I can’t even imagine what it would be like
