On facebook this thing has taken up some heat and at SFSU I saw some posters advertising speeches and discussions during the Islamo-Fascism awareness week informing the masses about the dangers of Islamo-Fascism. I started looking around and found out what actually is going on.
Supposedly this guy named David Horowitz wrote an article in FrontPage Magazine, which specializes in conservative news, where he asks the nations’ educational institutes to mobilize and spread awareness about the danger that is basically Islam. As you have to be politically correct these days, he chose the title “Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week”.
For this good deed, there is a guide that has been created called “A Student’s Guide to Hosting Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week” that guides students to basically spread the hatred against Islam and terrorize the already ignorant students into believing that Islam is the only menace to the society we live in.
For this purpose, the theme is the oppression of women in Islam. It doesn’t get any better than this! This message is being promoted by showing unislamic acts performed by Taliban in Afghanistan and few of the Wahabi practices followed in Saudi Arabia. Why is America oppressing Muslim women then? Recently, a Muslim soccer player was benched due to her head scarf. The referee asked her to remove the head scarf because it violated rules. So you mean to say the school and the coach were unaware of the rules and only this referee read the soccer bible?
In other words, if a Muslim woman in America is discriminated against because of her head scarf, that’s a non-issue. But if the same thing happens in a Muslim country, it is termed as “Oppression of Women”. By what happened during this soccer match, the message that is being sent to young girls is that if you play a sport and you wear a head scarf, you are for some reason inferior to someone who doesn’t wear the head scarf. Either be a Muslim or play soccer, can’t do both together.
Unfortunately, the Muslim response to this event has been little to none. They have something called “Peace not Prejudice” thing going on this week for which you can barely find any information online. This week at school will be interesting because SFSU has a reputation of getting into trouble when it comes to these events.
