Swimming in a Burqa; Priceless!

If there is something ridiculous, it’s this. I mean, hasn’t she heard of the new Burqini; Bikini for Hijabis? Oh, wait… it shows your face but she doesn’t wanna show her face, she prefers the Ninja type Hijab but she has to swim, so yeah, let’s jump in with the Burqa.

God knows what country this is, I lived in Dubai my entire life and never saw such a thing. The guy I assume is the Husband otherwise this wonderful sight wouldn’t be possible. My brother suggested this might be photoshoped, hmmmm you think so?

    Me and my husband like this photo. At least those people have some maturity that permit them to swim in a family and enjoy life TOGETHER even if they seem to be different. Many of people who live alone, would pay thousand of dollars to have a mature family who can enjoy any kind of sport together :_)
    We think its time to think of our own SHAME!

    Me and my husband like this photo. At least those people have some maturity that permit them to swim in a family and enjoy life TOGETHER even if they seem to be different. Many of people who live alone, would pay thousand of dollars to have a mature family who can enjoy any kind of sport together :_)

    The problem is the people like u .. if she didn’t wear any cloth u would say Arab didn’t have any kind of manner .. and if she wears like the women at the photo u think she is crazy .. I will answer u .. don’t bother ur self and took photo for the people when they are enjoy .. I think all the people have the right to do every thing even if they want to walk naked .

      People should definitely not be making fun of her because she is being forced to wear this. But we should also not “mind our business” when basic human rights are being violated. There is something wrong in this photo and that is the fact that this man has a right to make his wife wear this heavy and constricting burqa while swimming even though he gets to feel the water against his skin. She doesn not have a right to NOT wear it. When human rights violations are masked as “differences in cultures” people continue to suffer. I respect differences but not when one gender in a culture gets to oppress the other.

    In the western world, general woman swim with swim-suite. If you look at comfort of swimming, yes, thats the good way.
    Non-western people wear day-to-day dress when they swim. They are not comfortable in exposing their body with swim suite. But, mullah people have too stringent norms for public dress code of woman. What ever it may be, Mullah-woman should be treated as human beings.

    As a life guard, someone wearing something like that in the ocean is a definite risk! She could easily drown or suffocate wearing that. Although it is part of the religion, it is impractical and dangerous to wear in the water.

    i agree with janna &mr&mrs.david. someone said that this waman looks like an black spider man .i think she must check her eyesight.’coz the spider man hs tuned into black clor.this woman is wearing a cloth.’coz most of the people think when they swim they should wear bikinis,swimming suits or even naked!but i think when we swim we can waer anything that we like.or in other words (anything means not every thing!) some thing very comfertable to swim and covering our whole body.so this woman have right to wear the burqa when she is swimmin!

    Hey ppl, it's tough to guage what is right and what is wrong..What might seem right to you might seem wrong to me and vice-versa depending on culture, background, family, environment an society one lives in..
    Each one of us has a right to choose to live according to his/her own values..In God's eyes all are one..and God is one for all people.. We only give different names to God…. We are but mere humans and have limited vision … So it's not good to judge anyone…

      I understand what you are saying but that is the thing….women don’t have rights in some countries and cultures. You write that “Each one of us has a right to choose to live according to his or her values.” Women don’t have rights in Saudi Arabia. If they do not want to wear this burqa it doesn’t matter; they are forced to. If we never questioned things in cultures and in societies then injustices would never be addressed. Slavery was a human rights issues but what if people just said, “Well it’s a US Southerner cultural thing so let’s not judge them. They should continue to keep human beings in bondage and treat them worse than animals.” Women are being abused and oppressed on a daily basis in certain countries under the guise of “cultural differences.” We all do have a right, as you say to live how we want but that also includes this woman in this picture. If she was truly free and wanted to wear this I would say, “Go for it!” But she is not truly free and therefore the decision is not hers sadly. I will judge any culture where human rights are violated, including my own.

    For everyone saying that this woman has the right to swim in a burqa you are missing the point. Yes she does have a right but she also has a right to swim and feel the cool water on her skin and to not be pulled down by constricting heavy clothing. But guess what? She doesn’t have that right because it has been taken from her. You may think this is her perogative to take a swim such as this, but in her culture she is not allowed to swim without this. It is not about being “Westernized” as some say; It is about human rights. Some women claim that they wear the burqa by choice but in many countries it is not by choice but from fear and force. I embrace differences and respect cultural uniqueness but I have a problem when women are not given their full human rights by men who are brainwashed by religious passion that conveniently gives them more freedom and rights. Noemail I totally agree with you.
