Family of Dr. Zehra Attari files lawsuit against Alameda County

Dr. Zehra Attari went missing last year on November 7th and then her body was found after 43 days on December 20th 2005 in an Oakland estuary submerged in her Honda Accord. She apparently took a wrong turn that happened to be a dead end that lead her in to the cold water of Oakland estuary. It was raining and as she was an anxious driver, she couldn’t anticipate the danger as the site lacks any kind of barrier and has minimum warning for estranged drivers.

Her family filed a lawsuit on Tuesday 7th November against the Alameda County that alleges that her car plunged into the water after she inadvertently drove down an improperly marked boat ramp on that dark, rainy night. According to the suit, this accident could have been avoided if the city had taken precautionary measures. Before Dr. Attari’s accident, there had been two more instances where the driver ran into the estuary without knowing what’s ahead. The suit doesn’t mention any monetary amount but asks for damages related to loss of income and suffering.

When she disappeared, a friend of mine was the first one to inform me about her, she told me the details and the very next day I heard it on the radio, KGO. I looked online for info and it was scattered all over the place. I have the resources so I decided why not start a blog/website to find her and we can have all the resources there for people to find out more about her. I launched ZehraAttari.com and lot of people thought I was from her family or knew her personally. I hadn’t even heard about her until her disappearance.

As far as I know, Dr. Attari was a very charitable person, she worked in Oakland which is the worst place to work for anyone, just so that she can serve the un-insured and under privileged people. Money was never a motivation for her. This suit is a dark circle on her legacy in my view. This suit doesn’t live up to what she achieved in her life, which is enormous respect and love from people who knew she was people’s Doctor. Money won’t bring her back, let her legacy live because that’s something that can stay forever.
